The NAB Rewards Platinum card is suited to cardholders who want to get rewarded for their spending and like the flexibility of bank reward points. Right now, you can get 80,000 bonus NAB Rewards Points when you spend at least $1,000 on everyday purchases within the first 60 days from account opening. And another 20,000 points when you keep your card open for over 12 months. If you do collect the maximum 100,000 bonus points, you would have enough points for $480 worth of gift cards. You could also transfer them and get 50,000 Velocity Points for frequent flyer rewards.

Pros

  • Up to 100,000 bonus NAB Rewards Points
  • Earn additional 0.5 NAB Rewards Points per $1 spent at eligible grocery stores
  • Visa Premium Access and a 24/7 access to the NAB Platinum Concierge Services
  • 0% p.a. interest rate on balance transfers for 12 months

Cons

  • You need to keep the card for at least 12 months to collect all the bonus points, which means you’ll have to pay the second year annual fee
  • 3.5% international transaction fee
  • Balance transfer offer has a 3% balance transfer fee

The NAB Rewards Platinum Credit Card offers a 24/7 concierge that can help you save time on travel planning, entertainment bookings, gift purchases and more. When you make purchases with this card, you can also get up to 44 interest-free days on purchases by paying the total amount listed on your statement by the due date. Otherwise, the card's 20.99% p.a. variable purchase rate applies.

Who might the NAB Rewards Platinum be suited for?

  • You're aiming for a substantial points boost. New cardholders can earn up to 80,000 bonus Velocity Points (converted from 160,000 NAB Rewards Points) by spending $1,000 on everyday purchases within the first 60 days and keeping the card open for over 12 months.
  • You want flexibility in point redemption. NAB Rewards Points can be transferred to various partner programs, including Velocity Frequent Flyer, at a rate of 2 NAB Rewards Points to 1 Velocity Point, providing versatility in how you use your rewards.
  • You frequently shop for groceries or use Webjet. Earn 1.5 NAB Rewards Points per $1 spent at eligible grocery stores and 2 NAB Rewards Points per $1 on purchases made online with Webjet, accelerating your points accumulation.
  • You value complimentary insurance coverage. The card offers international travel insurance, purchase protection and extended warranty insurance when you meet the eligibility criteria, adding value for travellers and shoppers.

You might want to skip it if...

  • You prefer a direct earn Velocity card. If you want points automatically credited to your Velocity account without manual transfers, a direct earn card like the American Express Velocity Platinum Card might be more suitable.
  • You occasionally carry a balance. With a 20.99% p.a. purchase interest rate, carrying a balance can lead to significant interest charges, potentially outweighing the benefits of earned points.
  • You seek a lower annual fee. If the $195 annual fee is steep for your budget, consider cards with lower fees, such as the NAB Low Fee Card, which has an annual fee of $30.
  • You desire higher points earn rates. For higher earn rates, the NAB Rewards Signature Card offers up to 3 NAB Rewards Points per $1 spent with Webjet, though it comes with a higher monthly fee of $24.

How many weeks’ payslip is required to be provided?

Avatar

For this card, NAB asks for employment details from the last 3 years. Generally you won’t need multiple payslips unless your most recent payslip doesn’t represent your regular income. Hope that helps.

For the bonus points offer, what is included in everyday purchase? Can it include a car insurance payment?

Avatar

Angus Kidman Finder

September 23, 2024

Hi Ravi, car insurance payments would qualify as everyday purchases if your insurer allows you to pay them via credit card – not all of them do. Also compulsory payments (such as CTP green slips in NSW) might be classified as “government expenditure” and not qualify. Hope that helps!
